Abstrak

The seaweed cultivation system in Indramayu, which is still classified as traditional, makes the climate a problem when the drying process takes place during the harvest season due to rain which affects the condition of the Gracilaria sp seaweed, therefore, to face this challenge, modifications must be made to the method of drying the Gracilaria sp seaweed by switching from a natural drying method to a mechanical drying method, therefore a Gracilaria sp seaweed dryer was designed to help deal with this problem. This research aims to find alternative mechanical drying methods that make it easier for farmers to use and repair. The researchers carried out tests using a tray dryer type mechanical drying method with heat producing material, namely from burning solid biomass. The results obtained from this test were the maximum wind speed. obtained is 2.4 m/s, the largest heat that enters the drying chamber is 968,220 J with the highest heat flow rate obtained at 330.79 watts, the highest water content that can be removed by the drying process is 64.135% or 5,732 grams, this is already close to from the SNI 2690:2015 standard dried sea moss.
