PENGARUH VORTEX TUBE UNTUK PENDINGINAN PADA PROSES TURNING MATERIAL STAINLESS STEEL 316 TERHADAP ROUGHNESS DAN TOOL LIFE

Abstrak
In the turning process, there is an increase in tool and workpiece temperature due to friction during cutting. Cooling methods such as coolant still pollute the environment. A cooling device in the form of a vortex tube is one of the MQL methods. The research method carried out by experiment, turning process on CNC turning machine, using depth variation (1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm) with vortex tube cooling process and dry turning. The experimental results of the turning process carried out using a vortex tube with 5 bar air pressure. At a spindle speed of 1000 rpm with a depth of 1 millimeter, the highest workpiece temperature in the MQL method was 67.8°C and the tool temperature was 236°C. In the dry method, the workpiece temperature was 132°C and the tool temperature was 347°C. The process of cutting the material using vortex tube cooling media proves that it can slow down the temperature rise, reduce the surface roughness of the workpice and extend the tool life.
